An 18-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital and six others were injured in what is being described as a crush outside Copper Face Jacks nightclub in Dublin last night.
Four of the injured people were taken to hospital and treated in accident and emergency departments, he said. One of them is in a critical condition in St James’ Hospital. Gardaí are investigating the incident. Harcourt Street was closed for a time following the incident but had reopened by this morning. Copper Face Jack’s last night hosted an event called “Messy Monday’s” which a post on its Facebook page said would involve “€3 drink promotions & Dublin’s busiest venue”. Gardaí and the fire brigade were called to the scene on Camden Place, Harcourt Street just before midnight. A Garda spokesman said about 1,500 people were gathered in the vicinity of Harcourt Street and Camden Place at the time and that the injuries occurred when there was a surge in the crowd.
