“Living Wills” which allow a terminally ill person to set out treatments he/she may wish to have
at the end of his/her life is nearing a reality with the publication of the Assisted Decision-Making Bill by the Minister for Health James Reilly.
The proposed legislation will give effect to a person’s wishes where that person no longer has the capacity to make his/her views known.
The Minister said “Advance healthcare directives represent an important means by which people can exercise their autonomy, which is an integral component of a patient-focussed model of healthcare.
