A police officer in England retains his pension notwithstanding his conviction for multiple rapes including acts of paedophilia.
The British Home Office said that police pension regulations state the blocking of a police pension must satisfy a three-stage process the first of which is that the officer had been convicted of an offence committed in connection with his service as a member of a police force.
The initial complaint was made by a woman being transported in a police van who alleged the officer sexually assaulted her. Although he was sacked for this offence, which occurred while on duty, he did not appear in court in connection with the assault.
However, the publicity generated by his sacking for this offence caused other victims to come forward.
All of the rapes for which he was convicted occurred while he was off duty.
