John Wilson, referred to in the media as a Garda whistleblower, has commenced High Court proceedings seeking to challenge findings made in May 2012 that he was in breach of discipline by attending court proceedings in Cavan while off duty.
Garda Chief Superintendent James Sheridan filed an affidavit wherein he averred that he was concerned the Mr Wilson’s presence, while off duty in Cavan courthouse in circumstances connected to the administration of justice in a criminal case, could give rise to an apprehension of a lack of impartiality on the part of the force with regard to that case.
Ms Justice Iseult O’Malley has reserved her judgment.
